It’s just not enough to boast an impressive amount of storage on a postage stamp-sized memory card any more. You need that memory to be fast on the draw, both in terms of writing and reading. We know. That’s why we are now seeing the SanDisk Extreme SDHC card with 32GB of storage and a claimed 30MB/sec data access speed.

Many of the SDHC cards that you see on the market top out at about a class 6, guaranteeing that you will get at least a 6MB/sec read/write time on the card. Some of the cheaper SDHC variants may only give you a class 2 or a class 4. Not this card. The newest SDHC card from SanDisk is a whopping class 10.

That guarantees a minimum 10MB/sec transfer speed with bursts up to its claimed 30MB/sec speed. This may sound almost like overkill for the majority of point-and-shoot cameras and that kind of thing, but you have to remember that high-definition video camcorders can use this memory too. It’s also great for DSLRs with speedy burst rates.

There’s no word on pricing for now, but SanDisk has indicated that its 32GB Class 10 SDHC card will start shipping to retailers in August. At the same time, the smaller capacity cards (4GB, 8GB, and 16GB) from the SanDisk Extreme SDHC line will also be upgraded from Class 6 to Class 10.

The RIM Blackberry Curve 8300 is the first in the Blackberry Curve line of phone, a version above the Blackberry Pearl 8100. The Blackberry Curve uses the same operating system (OS) as the Pearl. It is very easy to use the keys on the full QWERTY keyboard due to the keys being spaced so far apart. It has a 2 Megapixel (MP) Digital camera. It has an MP3 player. Although the later versions of the Blackberry Curve do have video recording, the 8300 does not. You can download a more updated operating system which will allow you to have a video camera. AT&T’s 3G network is unavailable for the Curve 8300, but the EDGE network does have it perks when it comes to internet due it’s high speed. All in all the Blackberry Curve 8300 is the best phone from AT&T I have used.

The sales figures are in for Q1 2009 and sitting at the top of the heap for US smartphone sales is the BlackBerry Curve 83xx-series. This includes the basic 8300, the GPS-touting 8310, the Wi-Fi equipped 8320, and the CDMA-friendly 8330. These all have fundamentally the same outward appearance, but they have slightly different specs inside.

You would think that if a Research in Motion handset were to oust the iPhone from the top spot that it would be one of the newer smartphones. However, at this time, the BlackBerry Bold is only being sold by AT&T and the Curve 8900 is only being sold by T-Mobile. By contrast, nearly every carrier has a Curve 83xx series in its lineup. That probably helps quite a bit.

Sliding to second place was the iPhone. Apple (and Palm) saw its smartphone share drop by 10 percent during Q1, whereas RIM’s share increased by nearly 50 percent. The BlackBerry Storm swept through into the third slot.
